11 Hacks For Healthier Hair

Healthy hair hacks every girl should know. For curly, frizzy, thin, oily, or short hair.. these tips will help you with growth for long, natural hair faster.

Happy Monday!

I have been getting a ton of questions from you all about my hair, I would say it’s the number one topic in my DM’s right now. The top two questions being 1. What kind of extensions do I use? and 2. How do I keep my hair healthy and long? Unfortunately for you guys, I don’t have extensions and I know absolutely nothing about them (except that @hairby_chrissy does the most amazing extensions I’ve ever seen on Instagram, seriously go look!). So that leaves question number two! Which leads me into today’s post, ELEVEN hacks for healthier hair. These are all things I have learned over time and most of which I do on a daily basis. Hopefully they will help answer some of your questions!

Hacks For Healthier Hair
  1. Wash Your Hair Less Often – Washing your hair often will dry out your scalp and make it want to produce more oil, ultimately leading to more washing. Washing can also fade color faster, make it dull, cause more split ends, needing more heat styling, etc..
  2. Don’t Condition Your Scalp – I never apply conditioner to my scalp. If you do, it can make your hair more greasy. I apply on the bottom half of my hair only.
  3. Rinse Hair With Cold Water – After you are done washing your hair, do a final rinse with cold water. This will close the cuticle and help keep it strong.
  4. Use Quality Products – You get what you pay for. Use quality products or even natural products. Especially a heat protectant!
  5. Use A Shower Cap – I know it’s not cute, but no one is looking at you in the shower so just do it! It will keep the moisture out and prevent having to use more heat for touchups.
  6. Sleep on Clean Pillow Cases – Pillow cases are a breading ground for bacteria. You could even go one step farther and use a silk pillow case to create less friction on your hair which will decrease frizz. This is also really good for your face and preventing breakouts!
  7. Use A Dry Shampoo – Dry shampoo is LIFE. It absorbs excess oil, adds volume, adds texture, saves time. This is my favorite hair product and I highly recommend Batiste Dry Shampoo.
  8. Deep Condition – I like to do this every other time I wash. You can use a hair masque in the shower or even add some coconut oil to your ends a little bit before washing.
  9. Wet Hair Caution – Hair is most vulnerable when it’s wet, so use a microfiber towel to get as much water as you can out before brushing to avoid major breakage.
  10. Brush From The Bottom Up – Work out the tangles at the ends of your hair first before moving up. Starting low allows you to untangle without potentially pulling your hair follicle out of its root. Also, use the right brush such as a paddle brush or a wide tooth comb.
  11. You Are What You Eat – Drink lots of water and eat a balanced diet. You can also take supplements such as collagen and biotin.

If my hair looks a little pink in these photos it’s because I used the Kristin Ess Rose Gold Tint a few weeks ago. I am still one more wash away from the tint being completely gone. You can read all about my experience with the tint here. Temporary pink hair was so much fun!

I hope these hacks helped to answer some of the questions you guys have been asking me on Instagram! If you have any tips please leave them below, I am always looking for more!
