Hi girls! I have been so curious about the latest trend in manicures.. I see it all over Instagram stories, bloggers sharing their gorgeous manicures and talking about “Dip” nails. I am definitely the girl who likes to save money and paint my nails at home, but I thought I would treat myself and find out what this fancy manicure is all about. I had so many questions before I got it done, so now that I have a little experience (aka does it once and is now an expert, ha!) I thought I would share the process with you in case you are wondering too!

What Is A Dip Powder Manicure?

Dip powder manicures are the newest trend in nail salons across the country. For good reason, it lasts longer then gel nails, rarely chips, and doesn’t require UV light. Some people also refer to it as SNS, which is a specific brand of dip powder.

Dip powder is a happy medium between gel and acrylic. It’s harder to soak off than LED gel polish, which is formulated for easy removal. But it’s easier to remove than acrylic, which is generally filled in every two weeks instead of being completely removed each time.

What is the process?

To start, the nail technician removed all the old polish on my nails before pulling out her electric buffing machine to smooth out any rugged areas on my nail and create a clean canvas for the powder to stick to. Then comes the unique dip process. The nail tech brushed on a primer before painting on a clear polish. She dipped each of my fingers into the clear, finely-milled powder (looks like baking soda) brushed off the excess powder, set it with a protective clear polish and repeated these steps until my nail was fully coated and hardened. Finally, she painted my color of choice and then sealed each nail with a gel top coat. The total process took just under an hour.

Also wanted to mention that the powder comes in an assortment of colors and you can actually pick a powder that is the color you want your nails to be instead of using a polish.

How long does it last?

They should last about three weeks but can be up to a month or more if you are gentle with them!

*Update: I’m still loving them 2.5 weeks later and no chips! They do look slightly grown out though, will probably go in to the salon in about a week.

What are your go-to nail colors? I wish I could say mine change with the season, but I pretty much always have white or pink. #basic

Yes I have Rossi Nail kit and really like it. I put on a primer first, No 1, and then the base (2) and dip in powder. Do all five nails and then brush each one. Do a second coat, (base) then dip all five on one hand then brush excess powder off. Then (30 acetate and dry for a minute, then another acetate, dry. Then two coats of top coat and the look lovely. Mine last two weeks or more until I want to change the color. Great product.

I have been using the dip polish for about 2 years now and I love it…. that is all that I put on my nails. For me, I find that it helps my nails grow. I go to the salon every 2 1/2 weeks not because the polish is messed up but because my nails have grown and I can feel the gap between the growth and the beginning of the polish on my nail.
