Spring Break In Huntington Beach

Huntington Beach, California with kids. Where to stay, shop, eat, and things to do. Our favorite resort, restaurants on main street, the pier, and family friendly activities! Orange County and Surf City USA. Beach getaway at the Hyatt Regency.

Happy Monday! We just had the best week in Huntington Beach, CA celebrating Spring Break / a “babymoon” / last hoorah as a family of four! Huntington Beach, aka Surf City USA, is one of our favorite places to visit for a long weekend getaway. It’s only about 1.5 hours from San Diego and is home to one of our favorite resorts (I’ll share more on that below). Even being 8 months pregnant, I was able to waddle around town and do a few fun things with the girls. Here are some of our Huntington Beach favorites!

Where To Stay in Huntington Beach

I’m going to start with our most favorite resort and half the reason we come to this city… The Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach. This is were we always stay and if your budget allows I highly recommend! The location is fantastic with a pedestrian bridge leading to a wide open beach and it’s within walking distance to both Main Street and the pier. The resort offers multiple pools but we spent all our time at the kid pool this trip. The kid pool has water slides, a super shallow pool for toddlers, a medium deep pool for swimming, and a huge jacuzzi. There is also a poolside cafe right there which is perfect for grabbing lunch! In addition to the cafe, there are a few restaurants on the property and a mini grocery store with a Starbucks inside. One of our favorites for dinner is to order from Tower 15 Pizzeria on site to eat on our room’s balcony after a long day in the sun. There are quite a few fire pits on the property plus a ton more down on the beach. The resort also provides beach towels, chairs, and umbrellas if needed.

I also wanted to mention this mini hack for booking.. the price of a 1 king bed oversized room was actually cheaper than getting a 2 queen bed room. The oversized room has a pull out bed which was perfect for our 2 kids and it is over 100 sqft. bigger.

Two other places to stay that are next to the Hyatt: (I’ve walked through these places but haven’t actually stayed here)

The Waterfront Beach Resort by Hilton

Pasea Hotel and Spa

Things To Do With Kids

Everything I mentioned above at the resort is super family friendly. Here are a few fun things to do with kids in Huntington Beach that are within walking distance from the hotel:

Havaianas Sandals Shop – There is a Havaianas store on the walk from the Hyatt to Main Street. Kids can customize their own flip flops from the base color, the strap color, and gems to add on. Our girls thought this experience was so fun and it’s a souvenir they will actually use!

The Pier – Walking up and down the pier is fun for the whole family. You can see the surfers up close and at the end of the pier there are usually people fishing. While we were there someone caught a sting ray (they tossed it back) and our kids thought that was super cool.

Main Street – Walk, shop, eat.. everything you need on one street! Along the sidewalk is the Surfer Walk Of Fame consisting of surfers feet and hand prints. Our kids like to compare their own hand prints! Make sure you check out Huntington Surf and Sport and Jack’s Surfshop.

Ride Bikes – You can rent beach cruisers from the Hyatt or other places along the boardwalk. Huntington Beach’s boardwalk stretches over 8 miles long right along the sand. Stop for a treat from one of the beachfront food vendors!

Where To Eat

If you eat at the resort, our favorites are Slyders Pool Bar (for lunch), Pete’s Sunset Grille, and Tower 15 Pizzeria.

No Ka Oi – Hawaiian restaurant located right on Main St. They had fun coloring pages and crayons for kids.

Duke’s – Located right on the sand, this location and view can’t be beat! Get the Hula Pie for dessert.

TK Burger – Quick grab burgers and fries. A local spot that’s been serving burgers since the 80’s. My husband actually remembers coming here as a kid!

*Many of the resorts on Main Street are dog friendly! Don’t be surprised if you see one inside šŸ˜‰
