Good Morning, friends!
A few weeks ago I talked about starting a “Best of San Diego” category on my blog. I get so many recommendation requests from my readers who are planning trips here, that I thought I would have everything in one spot for easy access. And what better place to start then with breakfast!? Breakfast foods are by far my favorite and I could easily eat them for every meal.. pancakes for dinner? Yes, please!
With so many active early risers living here, San Diego definitely knows how to do brunch! There are a ton of delicious eateries and it was incredibly difficult narrowing down the best places. The few I listed below are some of my recent favorites.
#1 Toast Gastrobrunch – Carlsbad
One of our favorite brunch places is Toast Gastrobrunch. It’s right down the street from our house, great for groups, and has an extensive brunch, lunch, and bar menu.
Their all day breakfast menu includes a variety of toasts and breakfast classics. I love their classic french toast while my husband enjoys all six of their eggs benedict options. Most of their non-classic menu items are also served with a chocolate dipped green apple, yes – at breakfast! Their breakfast potatoes are to die for. Think mashed potatoes, rolled into little balls, battered and deep fried. They also have a full bar with everything from classic mimosas, heavenly Bloody Marys and spiked coffee drinks served with one of Italy’s finest coffee’s, LavAzza.
Also, this place would be perfect if you are visiting town for Legoland. It’s located less than five minutes from the theme park and has a great kids menu! My girls enjoyed their kid sized pancakes (which were only $2, score!) and the life-size cow that greeted them at the entrance!
#2 Louisiana Purchase – North Park
If you like cocktails with your breakfast, this is the place for you!
Conveniently located on Louisiana Street in North Park, this brunch spot is a super unique addition to San Diego. I’ve lived here my entire life and have never tried anything like it! Their menu encompasses all the flair of New Orleans along with a craftsman style cocktail list. Jeff ordered a jambalaya omelette complete with a cajun spiced sausage, while I went for the sweeter option of strawberry stuffed french toast.
Jeff just told me that Louisiana Purchase is his new favorite brunch spot in San Diego, with quite possibly the best Bloody Mary he thinks he has ever had. Made with an extremely tasty “pickle veg infused vodka”. I opted for the Watermelon Seven-Five, served frozen with gin, prosecco and fresh watermelon agua fresca, which was delightfully refreshing.
They also have bottomless mimosas for only $15 with the purchase of an entree. I can’t wait to go back with some of our friends and spend a few hours hanging out and sipping here.
*Please note that brunch is only on Saturdays and Sundays.
#3 Breakfast Republic – Encinitas
Get breakfast all day, every day, at one of Breakfast Republic‘s seven locations across the county! They have a huge menu with classic inspired favorites, unique pancake and french toast dishes, plus a few vegan and gluten-free options. Some of my favorites include the lemon coconut pancakes, banana split french toast, and the breakfast sammie complete with a cute little hole in the bread for your egg yolk to show through. You can even get a flight of three different pancake options to try! There is definitely something for everyone on this menu.
Another thing I love about Breakfast Republic is their attention to detail. All the syrup dispensers are mini chickens, there are seating areas with egg shaped chairs (Hayden is a huge fan), and they have their own house ketchup and hot sauce. I also notice new quirky sayings each time I visit, they are on the walls in the bathroom, on the napkin wraps… everywhere! The service is excellent and the food is served quick, which is extra helpful when you have little ones with you. It is definitely worth a visit!
Next time you are in San Diego, check out one of these three restaurants to enjoy the most important meal of the day!
