Book Review: Girl, Wash Your Face

Girl, Wash Your Face.

Stop believing the lies about who you are so you can become who you were meant to be.

Where do I even begin…. Yes. Yes. Yes.

Let me start by saying that I haven’t finished an entire book since I was in college and it was required of me. I start so many books with the best intentions but either get bored of them or just can’t find the time to finish them and lose interest. This book was different. I couldn’t put it down! It was unbelievable relatable and it left me wanting more. I genuinely loved it and couldn’t wait to share it with you all. It is a must read!!

A little background.. In this book, Rachel Hollis lays out 21 lies that women often believe about themselves, lies such as “I’m Not Good Enough,” “I’m Not a Good Mom,” “I Am Defined by My Weight,” and other struggles that keep many women from living joyful, productive lives. And let me tell you, you will relate to ALL OF THEM. Hollis combats these lies with truths she’s learned over the years, using her own examples of mistakes to encourage and inspire. Then each chapter ends with three tips that she calls, Things That Helped Me.

What I love most about this book is how refreshingly honest and real Hollis is. This is not another generic self help book. This is your best friend, sitting you down, giving you the kick in the butt you need to get up and going. All the things you don’t want to talk about, all the things you are hiding and ashamed of. Rachel Hollis raises her hand and says me too. And not only did it happen to me, but I’ve walked through it and I’m on the other side.

Whether it’s your marriage, your sex life, your mom life, your business dreams or your struggle with self esteem. We all have the ability to change. To take control, take down the lies, and to live the best version of our life possible. I am so glad that Rachel went to all the taboo places. When we are real about our struggles and share hard concrete tips on overcoming those struggles with each other despite how it may look, we are breaking down walls of judgement, self destruction and guilt. It’s also incredibly freeing and motivating to continue chasing your dreams.

So if you want a book that “goes there”… If you want raw, real, honesty, humor and direct no-nonsense advice BFF to BFF… then this book is hands down for you. I freakin’ loved it!

Girl, read this book.
