Nothing says Spring is right around the corner more then fresh flowers! These sunflowers are getting me excited for the sunnier days to come. And we all know what that means – shedding layers! I’m ready to put away all the oversized sweaters and cozy joggers and bring my more stylish apparel out of hibernation. I know that balancing a career, family, and finding time for ourselves, can make stepping out the door with style every day seem impossible—but it’s not! It’s all about adding those extra special touches to make any outfit look just a little more elevated. Here are my ten tips that I personally like to follow to always look a little more fashion forward.
10 Tips To Elevate Your Style
1. Add A Belt
2. Accessories
I love accessories because they are such an easy and affordable way to completely change an outfit. A solid statement piece can take an ensemble from boring to a stand-out in seconds. I have my favorite necklaces and rings that I always wear. You could add a stack of bracelets or unique sunglasses to a basic outfit and make it look way more elevated.
3. Play With Your Bags
I am totally guilty of reaching for the same bag (diaper bag) daily. But what a difference a statement bag makes! I just grabbed this straw tote for these pictures and it completely changed my whole look! Plus it holds just as much, if not more, then my typical diaper bag. You could also try a backpack, a crossbody, a pouch.. or something an unusual shape.
4. Keep An Eye On Trends
This doesn’t mean you need to go out and buy a ton of trendy clothing items, you can always keep up with them in other ways. Especially when you are wearing a super basic outfit! Something even as small as adding a couple bobby pins to one side of your hair or adding a bow to a pony tail, is an affordable way to keep up with the latest trends. For example, in this outfit I draped my denim jacket over my shoulders instead of wearing it normally. I didn’t have to buy any new pieces for this look, but by wearing it a different way made it look way more fashion forward!
5. Correct Proportions
Making sure your outfit fits you well and correctly emphasizes your figure is going to make a huge difference. For example, I like to wear my tops loosely tucked into the front of my jeans. It accentuates my waistline and makes my outfit look a little dressier, even it it’s just jeans and a tee! Other things I like to pair together are crop tops + high waist denim, loose jeans + a tight top, short skirt + an oversized sweater. You get it? Balance out your proportions and build your closet with clothes that put the spotlight on your shape and favorite features.
6. Add A Hat
f you’re only purchasing one hat, make sure you find a neutral color that goes with pieces in your wardrobe so you can wear it more often.
7. Wear Prints and Textures
Don’t get me wrong, I love an all black look. But adding prints and textures will quickly create a bold, eye-catching outfit. I love
Stripes and leopard is one of my favorite combos! If your nervous about prints, add a solid color item with texture such as leather pants/leggings or a lace blouse.8. Self Care
Self care is a huge part of looking stylish, elevated, and fashion forward. Taking time to get your nails done or a facial can make you look way more elegant. I personally love to paint my own nails at home as I find it therapeutic, and no one can bother mommy when she has wet nails 😉 It doesn’t need to cost a lot, but makes a huge difference to elevate your style!
9. Try A Statement Shoe
pop-of-color sneaker can make things appear more intentional.
10. Step Out Of Your Comfort Zone
It never hurts to try something new. Whether that includes a bright new hue that stands out from your usual neutral palette, or shifting from skinny jeans to a boyfriend silhouette, great style is built from trying new things. You might discover something new that you love!
