If there is one time of the year when it is totally justified to go full glam and a little over the top, it’s the holiday season! One of my favorite ways to spruce up my outfits for this festive season is by incorporating some sequins. However, I know there is a fine line between looking like a sassy toddler or like a chic trendsetter. Sequins can look very elegant when styled in a modern way. Here are a few tips for incorporating some glitter into your holiday outfits.
How To Style Sequins
Start Off Small – Add some sparkle pumps or a sequin bag to dress up your outfit. These small items are easy to style and still make a big statement.
Pick One Sequined Item – When you are ready to start incorporating sequin into your clothing, stick to only one sparkle piece. This could be a sequined blazer, skirt, dress, or even pants. Pick one focus piece and avoid head to toe sparkle.
Add Classic Pieces – Once you have your statement piece, add some basics or keep it casual. I love the look of pairing a sequin skirt with a chunky knit sweater. Or throw on a black blazer over a sequin dress. Clean lines can help tone down the sparkle.
Balance – Once you have your statement piece, with added classic pieces, stick to minimal accessories. Too much bling can look over the top and tacky.
Pair Different Textures – This is one of my favorite tips! Pair sequins with other textures such as velvet (like my jumpsuit shown here), knits, or even leather. Playing with textures can add some extra dimension to an otherwise neutral colored outfit.
