Summer is here! I love this season for so many reasons – the weather is better, it stays lighter longer, and everything is heating up. One of my favorite ways to embrace summertime is going on fun dates with my husband. There is just something about this time of year that makes me feel more carefree and reminds me of our younger days.

We have been together for about a decade now and have done almost everything under the sun (no pun intended 😉 ) together. From seeing a movie to lavish vacations, we have this dating thing down and we always have a great time together! Here are some of our favorite Summer dates!

Probably the most obvious date idea is going out to dinner. Visiting a sit down restaurant without kids is such a treat for us and we absolutely love trying new places! Lucky for us, there is a fairly new Mexican food restaurant right down the street on Coast Highway, Jalisco Cantina. They offer a variety of unique food and drinks that reflect a vibrant region and culture! We started with a delicious Cream of Poblano soup, which was a first for me! Their dinner entrees include five different taco selections (Jeff and I each chose one) along with salads and larger main plates, all of which embrace super fresh ingredients. Also, they told us the Jalisco culture is filled with warm, welcoming people and that was definitely apparent in the service we received!

Their cocktail menu is off the charts! It includes a ton of handcrafted cocktails, many with their fine tequila, which Jalisco, Mexico is known for! I had the “El Sunburn” margarita which tasted like a spicy margarita with aloe and pineapple. It was exactly what you would imagine the perfect day spent in sun to taste like, yum! Jeff had “the Detox” margarita which included turmeric and spirulina. We joked that the healthy ingredients canceled out the alcohol, ha! They even have a “Soup Of The Day” option which is a shot of 100% blue agave tequila, so fun!

Overall, Jalisco Cantina is such a cute place with great food, service, and cocktails. We will definitely be back for more!

More Summer Date Ideas:

Spontaneous Day Dates – We love going to an impromptu breakfast or lunch while the kids are at school. There isn’t usually a ton of people out during the week and it helps break up the work day. Plus, we get the best of both worlds by having our alone time and getting to spend time together as a family in the evenings.

Go Wine Tasting – We live about 45 minutes away from the Temecula wineries. In the Summer, we love heading out there to sip some wine (or chilled rosé), have a picnic, and take in the views.

Take A Beach Walk – Whether you are at the beach or by the lake, taking a walk together is a great chance to talk and connect. It’s great for soaking up vitamin D, reducing stress, and getting some exercise. Plus, it’s totally free!

Road Trip – It doesn’t have to be an overnight thing (especially when you have little ones to come home to), but just driving around and cranking up the music is so fun. We love cruising the coast in my husband’s vintage Mustang or taking the scenic way home.

Get Ice Cream – I have a major sweet tooth, so I really enjoy this one! It’s quick and easy and a great way to beat the heat. Watch the sunset while you eat!

A Night In – After we put the kids to bed, we open a bottle of wine, cuddle up, and binge our favorite shows. It’s so nice to relax together and unwind. These are some of my favorite nights!
