Hola amigos! We just got home from another incredible vacation in Mexico and I couldn’t wait to share all the details with you. I got a ton of DM’s on Instagram while we were there so hopefully having one place to answer all your questions will be helpful. Sayulita is definitely becoming more and more popular, and I can see why since it is one of our most favorite places in the world. It is great for both families and couples and there are so many Pinterest-worthy corners. Below is everything you need to know and all our favorite things about this colorful little town!
Getting There:
Sayulita is definitely off the grid but it is pretty easy to get there. After flying into Puerto Vallarta airport, it is about a 40 minute drive North. We have used two ways of transportation to get there, first is by taxi. Second, is by using a private service which I highly recommend! The private service is great for groups, only costs about $20 more each way, and will most often stop at a large grocery store on the way into town if requested. We have used Jose Ramos Transportation and have been super impressed with their timeliness and communication. They also always have cold beer and water waiting for you in the car! Be sure to schedule this service in advance.

Where To Stay:
Sayulita is a quaint town with no major hotel name brands or resorts. Many places are little clusters of villas on the beach or few room hotels. Here are our favorites:
Casablanca Hotel – This is the hotel we stayed at the first time we visited Sayulita. We LOVED it! It is beach front, close enough to town to walk but far away from the noise. Beach front with an awesome pool and rooftop jacuzzi. The rooms are indoor/outdoor where the living room room and kitchen is outside under a palapa and the bedroom is inside with AC. Definitely something different then anything we are used to, but like I said, we LOVED it!
AirBnB – There are a ton of cute AirBnB’s available in Sayulita. The one we stayed at this trip was so great. It was really nice and had three bedrooms, a large kitchen, and the pool had a shallow area which was awesome for kids. Highly recommend! Linked here.
Playa Escondida Resort – If you are a fan of the show Bachelor in Paradise then you will for sure recognize this hotel, it’s where it’s filmed! It looks so freaking cute, might be adults only, and in my opinion kind of put Sayulita on the map. However, this resort is very private and actually about a mile or more away from the main town center.
Where To Eat (& Drink):
La Rustica – This is our go-to spot in the center of town. It has trendy, modern decor and delicious pizza! They also have some delicious adult beverages!
Don Pedros – This place is a little bit fancier and right on the water. They serve both American and Mexican food. Another one of our favs!
Trapiche – Local brewery on our way from the hotel into town. Outside seating with good burgers and brews. It is the definition of a “beer garden” as it sits within a palm tree grove!
Su Casa – A fun bar in town with great local live music. Not sure about the food though.
Organik – Best place for acai bowls and smoothies!
Terrenal – It can be hard to eat healthy on vacation, but this little place helps! It’s an all organic store providing foods and products. Organic milk and half and half delivered here once a week.
El Coneijo – A local tequila distillary offering flights of tequila and has a fantastic happy hour. I believe they also have tacos.
Cake Lady – Not sure what her set up is called, but everyone in town refers to her as the Cake Lady! She has a table set up in the center of town selling GIANT slices of cake for about a $1 a piece. They are delicious and we always stop by her booth a few evenings for dessert.
Hidden Gems:
Heart Walkway – This was actually something I was on the hunt for the first time we visited Sayulita but couldn’t find it. So on our second trip there I made sure to find it and get a photo! I can’t even tell you how many DM’s I got on Instagram asking about this place! It is located in the tiny hotel called Petit Hotel Hafa which is near the center of town. It is a red building with a small white gate entrance, go up the stairs on your right and this walkway is around the corner!
Playa De Los Muertos – This was another place we didn’t visit on our first trip here, so I am so glad we made it this time! It is a bit hidden, but worth finding! The sand was great for kids, super mellow waves, and almost the entire beach was shaded by giant palm trees. There is also way less people then the main beach! Get here early for a close parking spot (for your golf cart). Picture below.
More Activities:
There is so much more to do in this cute little town! Besides spending the entire day at the beach/pool or stuffing our faces with chips and quac, we also like to do a few of the below:
Yoga – Sayulita is known for being a popular yoga retreat location, it was one of the first things that attracted us to the area! Even though I am not much of a yogi, I love that their is a studio on almost every corner. Paraiso Yoga is one of the most popular. Would love to do a yoga class on the beach one day.
Spa – There are a few little spas in town offering massages and manicures. They are mostly really affordable and for a few extra dollars they will even come to your hotel/AirBnB. I’ve even seen them set up under a palapa on the beach. Nirvanna Spa is a great one!
Fishing – There are a ton of small boats that offer fishing charters. They leave right from the main beach. This recent trip my husband went with Captain Regis on his panga boat, Thunnus, and he had such a great time. We ended up bringing home about 30 pounds of fish!
Golf Cart – Not really an activity but definitely a fun addition to our trip. We organized a golf cart rental via our AirBnB’s front office. There are a few places in town to rent them. Great for getting around, especially to/from dinner at night. Also took our golf cart over to Playa De Los Muertos, which is probably why we didn’t visit there the first time. Much easier to drive to when you have small kids!
