The Ultimate Guide To Poshmark

Poshmark is an app where people buy and sell their new and gently used items, mostly clothing and accessories to other people online for cash. There are over 5,000 brands listed at up to 70% off! To sell, you simply take pictures of the clothes you want to sell and then when they are sold, you mail the item to the buyer. Poshmark takes care of the shipping costs and all you have to do is print the label, put it on the package, and drop it in the mail. It’s also great for finding specific items that are sold out or gently used at a discounted price!

I use Poshmark often and you can shop my closet here. I’ve learned a few things along the way that can help you be successful on Poshmark too! While the Poshmark app itself is simple to use, there are a few tips and tricks to selling more and also finding the best items to buy.

Selling on Poshmark

  1. Brand Names Sell – List any name brand items first. If your not sure which ones to start with look into the “Posh Parties” that are hosted each day, they will usually have themes related to certain brands, these certain brands are some of the more popular brands being bought/sold on Poshmark.
  2. Take Great Pictures – Your pictures are really what sell your product. Make sure your pictures are bright and clear. The more pictures each listing has the better. People want to know what they are buying so if you have blurry or dark pictures that don’t clearly portray your item they are less likely to buy it. This also means don’t photograph wrinkled items!
  3. List More – Usually the more listings you have in your “closet” the more shoppers will find your account. They also might find more then one thing in your closet that they like! Which leads me to the next point…
  4. Offer Bundle Discounts – By offering discounts for purchasing more products from your closet you will be able to move more inventory and your buyers will only have to pay for shipping once.
  5. Share Posts – When you share posts it shows up in your newsfeed for all your followers to see.  You can share your own posts or you can share posts of other sellers. The more you share posts the more your posts will be shared. Consider it free advertising.
  6. Poshmark Parties – These online “parties” choose categories such as handbags, summer attire, or a specific brand like Lululemon. Share your items to these parties and get more visibility from the people shopping for these specific items.
  7. Answer Questions Promptly – When someone comments on your item with a question, it’s best if you can answer them right away. Usually if they have to wait a long time for an answer, they’ll find a similar item from a seller who WILL answer their questions. You can set up alerts for this.
  8. Lower Prices Over Time – When there are “likes” on a listing, Poshmark notifies the “likers” when a product price changes.  If you see that you have multiple likes on a piece of clothing and your trying to move more inventory, lower the price 10% and you may get a bite.
  9. Ship Promptly and Personalize Packages – Poshmark displays an average shipping time for each seller so be sure to get your items shipped as soon as possible because that can influence the buyer on whether they should order from you. Show your customers you care by writing a short note thanking them for their business. It might encourage them to leave you a good review and remember your closet to shop again.

Buying on Poshmark

  1. Look For Something Specific – I use Poshmark mostly to find particular items that might be currently sold out in my size or I don’t want to pay full price for them.
  2. Stick To The Brands You Know – Since you can’t exchange anything, I try to stick to brands where I already know the quality and sizing. This ensures I don’t get stuck with something that doesn’t fit or I don’t like. If this does happen, try re-listing the product in your own closet.
  3. Use Search Filters – When you search for something you can set filters such as your specific size. This can save you the time of browsing through hundreds of items that wouldn’t work anyways.
  4. Do Your Research – Look at all the photos closely before purchasing. Don’t be afraid to ask a question in the comments about the item. Read the description!! You can also read reviews and find the average shipping time of the seller before you purchase from them.
  5. Use The Like Feature – If you see something you might like, click the heart button. If that product drops in price, Poshmark will notify you. Occasionally they even offer free shipping if a product’s price changes.
  6. Follow Favorite Brands – Not only can you follow people, you can follow brands. Anytime someone posts something for sale from the particular brand you follow it will show up in your feed. Another good thing to notice is that when searching a brand, you can look at the “Just In” tab to sort by what was newly listed, or by “Price Drop” to sort by items that were recently reduced.
  7. Be Aware Of Replicas – This is one of Poshmark’s biggest faults as replicas aren’t allowed to be sold on the site, but they do not control it very well. Just be cautious. Although if anything sells for over $500, the seller sends the item to Poshmark, and they authenticate it for free before sending it to the buyer.
Poshmark is one of those apps where you get out of it what you put in. When you take the time to participate, your closet listings will be featured more and your clothes will be more visible. Or even if you’re just hoping to sell a few items it’s still a great option! Also, many of these tips transfer over to any similar online shopping platform, but I have found Poshmark the easiest to buy and sell on.

If you are not signed up for Poshmark yet, you can do that here and use code “KRISTYTHORNTON” to automatically earn $5 just for signing up!
