Tips For Legoland CA With Toddlers

My husband had the day off today so we decided to take the girls to Legoland. Lucky for us it is less than 5 miles from our house and we visit often. So often in fact that I might be a Legoland expert now (not sure this is compliment? haha) and wanted to share my knowledge with you. We really do have so much fun every time we visit, the girls love it!

Let’s talk tickets.. A one day ticket to Legoland is around $100. That’s insane and not worth it in my opinion. There are a few options to save money.. We have passes since we go so often and they pay for themselves after the first trip. The Costco across the street has passes occasionally for $99 and it includes the aquarium and water park (will do a separate post on this). I’ve also seen 3 day passes for the same amount there. Legoland also runs specials such as military discounts and kids free with paid adult. Just do some research before you show up 🙂 Also, always check the hours before you go. Sometimes during the off season mid-week days are closed. Their hours are also all over the place, sometimes closing as early as 5:00pm.

Legoland is for all ages but in my opinion the majority of the attractions are aimed for younger kids (age 2-10). There are a handful of rides that the younger kids can go on and we tend to prioritize those so my littlest one doesn’t feel left out.

  • Fairy Tale Brook – A slow boat cruise through classic fairy tale scenes made of legos. Good for all ages and no minimum height.
  • Coast Cruise – A slow boat cruise through the main part of the park and allows you to see some LEGO structures less visible from other parts of the park.
  • Legoland Express – Mini train at the very back of Fun Town. It is a little hard to find, but so fun for little ones. No minimum height requirement.
  • Plane Ride (aka Cargo Ace) – The only minimum for this is that riders have to be able to stand on their own. And apparently wear shoes, they didn’t let us on once because of this..
  • Mia’s Riding Camp – Ride a horse on this awesome carousel. No minimum height, just have to have an adult stand next to them.
  • Playgrounds – There are two different playgrounds within the park. Great to let the kids run wild and get some wiggles out! The Duplo playground is our favorite as it is geared more towards younger kids and has legos to play with.

Mini City -The premier attraction at the park and it includes lego creations of many large cities. They also have famous Star Wars scenes and characters built entirely out of legos. Every time we visit we find a new detail we never notice before. It’s amazing!

Meet Characters – One of my 4 year old’s favorite part of Legoland is seeing the Lego Friends show. She loves to get up and dance with them. Often, the Lego Friends have a meet and greet in the audience a few mins after the show. Just by chance this past visit, they invited my daughter to go on the carousel with them. Talk about a dream come true!!!

Parent Swap – They offer families who have children that both meet and don’t meet the minimum height restriction the opportunity to do a “Parent Swap”. All members of the party wait in line together and when you reach the front just let the ride operator know. When the first ride is over, the parents may then switch places and the other parent can then ride with the older child. Bonus cause your older child gets to ride twice!!

Baby Care Center – It is located in the Fun Town area and includes a baby-changing area with rocking chairs for nursing mothers and highchairs, as well as a refrigerator and microwave for preparing a baby’s meal. Just nice to know about in case you need it.

Mini Figurine Trading – Have you seen the Disneyland tradition of trading pins? Same concept here, bring a lego mini figure or purchase one there to trade with all the employees. The employees have them attached to their name tag or the retail stores have a box to choose from. You can trade as many times as you want!

Dining – Bring snacks! We like to bring water bottles and snacks for the kids so we don’t have to spend money on food there. They do allow a 10″x12″ cooler. If you do want to eat in the park, there are a ton of great options and you get a discount if you show your annual pass.

If you want to make a weekend of it, the Legoland Hotel is a great option based on it’s close proximity! And Carlsbad is a great place to visit! The beach is a short 5 minute drive from the theme park. There is also an In-N-Out Burger right down the street. There are tons of parks, restaurants, great shopping, and more.

Hayden was only a few weeks old in this one!
